RACV Child Restraint Evaluation Program
December 2007 RACV with NRMA executed a Child Restraint Evaluation
Program looking into the current availability and safety of Child car
seats, These were tabled in a report and is referenced in the
report. Unfortunately it appears that the Safe-n-Sound maxi
Rider MkII
was not included in the evaluation and should be redone to verify the
results
The report is divided into 3
sections; these include:
- Rearward facing restraints for Babies
- For babies up to 9kgs; 70cm long, from birth to 6 months
- Forward-facing restraints
for young children - For young children 8-18kgs;
from 6-9 months to approximately 5 years
- Booster seats for older children
- For children 14-26kgs; until they
are large enough to be safely secured by an adult seatbelt.
Results - Rearward facing restraints for Babies
The results for the rearward facing Restraints for babies revealed that
five of the top 6 child restraints were Safe n Sound Child restraints.
These top six included :
- Safe-N-Sound Compaq
- Baby Safety Capsule
- Safe-N-Sound Compaq Deluxe
- IGC GoSafe Cleo
- Safe-N-Sound Safeguard
- Safe-N-Sound Royale
Results - Forward-facing restraints for young children
The results for the Forward facing Restraints for young children
revealed that
six of the top 10 child restraints were Safe n Sound Child restraints.
These top ten included :
- Safe-N-Sound Series 3
- Safe-N-Sound Meridian
- Safe-N-Sound Explorer
- Babylove Sovereign
- IGC GoSafe Cleo
- IGC GoSafe Summit
- Safe-N-Sound Compaq Deluxe
- Safe-N-Sound Discovery Plus

- Safe-N-Sound Safeguard
Results - Booster seats for older children
The results for the Booster seats for older children
revealed that
four of the top 6 child restraints were Safe n Sound Child restraints.
When Selecting a child restraint select the safest seat that will
protect your
child for the age and weight of your child. In contrast to what RACV
have stated in their report
'that while convertible restraints can be used for a
little longer, they tend to be a compromise and can be confusing to use'.
We know at Glenhuntly Baby
Carriages, that Safe-n-Sound do not conmpromise on features and that
the Maxi Rider and the Maxi Rider Mk II are exceptionally safe and can
be used much longer than the other booster seats for older children
mentioned
in the RACV report.

These top ten included :
- Infa Vario Kid
- Hipod Barcelona
- Safe-N-Sound Explorer with
anti-submarining clip
- Safe-N-Sound Hiliner
- Safe-N-Sound Explorer w/o
anti-submarining clip
- Safe-N-Sound Maxi Rider with
anti-submarining clip
After you have chosen your child restraint / car seat, it is extremely
important
that the car seat is installed correctly; as pointed out in the racv
report
'..approximately 70% of child restraints are not
installed correctly.' A child restraint which is not fitted
properly
may result in serious injury or even death in the event of a crash. It
is strongly
recommended that new restraints are professionally fitted by a trained
child restraint fitter.
Side wings on a car seat / child restraint offer more protection in the
event of a crash. this is seen in the committment of safe n Sound
incorporating side wings in the design of their car seats.
